Where the Bear River meets the Great Salt Lake, forming one of the largest freshwater marshes on the Pacific and Central Flyways. Hundreds of thousands of birds pass through during spring and fall migration — pelicans, stilts, blackbirds, and shorebirds among them.
The auto-tour loop means most of the refuge is accessible without leaving the car, which doubles as a surprisingly effective blind. Water levels and bird numbers vary a lot by season, so check the refuge’s current conditions before a long drive out.
