Aspen grove clearing

Aspens grow as connected clonal colonies, often sharing a single root system across an entire grove — which is part of why they tend to leaf out and change color almost in unison. This stand was just past bud break, a soft wash of pale green against still-bare white trunks.

Getting the shot

An HDR blend again handled the bright gap in the canopy without losing the trunk detail in the darker foreground. I framed straight into the grove to let the repeating white trunks lead the eye back toward the clearing.
