Sun through the maritime pines

Not every good frame at the beach faces the water — turning inland at the end of the day caught the sun sinking directly behind a stand of maritime pines, their silhouettes breaking the disc into fragments of light. A few minutes later it had dropped below the treeline entirely.

Getting the shot

Underexposed well below what a meter would suggest, letting the trees go fully black and the sun hold its shape rather than blowing into a shapeless glow. f/11 kept the branch silhouettes crisp against the gradient sky.
