A wave curling green

Sometimes the ocean itself is the whole subject — no bird, no horizon, just a wave curling over right as the low sun turned it translucent green from behind. It held that shape for maybe half a second before collapsing into foam.

Getting the shot

A fast shutter froze the spray flying off the lip without over-freezing the water’s motion into something static-looking. Getting the timing right meant watching the wave sets and firing a burst right as one crested rather than trying to react to a single frame.
